Welcome Baskets

The Iroquois Area Community club is a small but active group that is always trying to think of ways to improve our community. Because we have a very active and aggressive Iroquois Housing Group that has brought several new homes to our town, we decided to welcome these new people. One of our members, Mary Wienbar, made up beautiful brochures of our town with pictures of every business. We then went to the local businesses and asked for anything they may want to put in the welcome basket. We had a fun time delivering them to the new people and getting to know those who have moved in to our community. The businesses, churches and the school got very creative in what they put in the baskets. The school put in free season passes to all of the home games. the churches put in a monthly newsletter that told of their churches activities.

Our Sanborn Central Horizons group also decided to make welcome baskets one of our goals. We are providing welcome baskets to any new members of the Artesian, Forestburg, or Letcher communities. So far I think we have given out about a dozen baskets. This is a great way to meet newcomers and it really makes them feel welcome and a part of the community.

I love the idea of having “Welcome Baskets” to a town. What a way to make new neighbors feel right at home.
