Senior Projects
This fall the senior class began IHS’s first ever senior projects. So far, so good! The students are making good progress and the enthusiasm for their research is high.
The student chooses a topic of their choice, and they write a lengthy research paper over the topic. They then select a faculty advisor and a mentor from the community to help them actually manufacture a product from their research. Some of the topics are catapults, cattle feeding programs, reloading ammunition for hunting, wildlife habitat, scrap-booking, Iroquois history, book writing (yes, a student is going to write book!), woodworking, handicapped house design. The list goes on, but you get a feel for what the project is and its variety! If a senior should select you as a mentor or advisor, please say yes!

What a wonderful idea! I will look forward to hearing more about some of the projects that the students create along with a community mentor! I hope that you feature some of them on the blog!

I might hae to use you people for advice. The state isn’t responding to my querries as qucikly as needed. I’m doing the papers this semester. Next semester, I’ll let the chips fall where they may with the projects and presentations. How far along are your schools?

At Sanborn Central the students have turned in their research papers for the senior projects. It’s our first year of doing these projects too, but I could put you in touch with the teacher that’s in charge of them at our school and I’m sure she would try to answer any questions that you have. What is your email address??

I am the only teacher doing Senior Projects at Iroquois. I don’t mind doing all this, but I am concerned about some grading things, and at what point does the state drop in for the presentations? As this is all going under an English grade, I have some concerns about the state’s role in this. Should I have these concerns? I’d hate to have a student not graduate because of a malfuntion at some point.

Thank you people! It helps to know others have the same concerns. The kids did a good job with their papers and product selection….now we get to start on the other “stuff”

Thanks again! The students have written their papers, and I have them graded and returned. We have started journal writing and protfolio updating. The mentors and advisors have been chosen and assigned. The students have their products in mind, so we have to see where this all leads us.
